TJ WASTE SHORTLISTED FOR THREE NATIONAL RECYCLING AWARDS!

TJ Waste has been shortlisted for three National Recycling Awards! TJ applied for the following awards: Employee Training and Skills, Partnership Excellence – Public/Private Sector and Recycled Product of the Year, and we’re thrilled to announce that we’ve been shortlisted as finalists for all three.

The winners of each category will be announced at the National Recycling Awards on Tuesday 6 December at the Westminster Park Plaza, London, which TJ are hoping to attend.

Table guests will enjoy a drinks reception upon arrival, followed by a three-course meal with wine. After dinner, the awards presentation will take place, hosted by a surprise celebrity compere. After-show entertainment and party will follow, with post-awards networking opportunities to bring the evening to a close.

The National Recycling Awards are the most prestigious awards in the recycling and resource management sector, with winning projects and teams rightly recognised for their achievements within the industry. The awards seek to recognise and reward excellence and inspire others, for the advancement of the sector.

There are 17 award categories in total and this year’s awards have been sponsored by Kenny Waste Management, Norse Group, Olleco, Re-Gen and headline sponsor Fiveways Group.

The first award we’ve been shortlisted for, Employee Training and Skills, recognises a specific training and skills initiative introduced by an employer in the waste/recycling/resources sector for which it can show a positive impact on its employees and measurable improvements.

At TJ, we run an annual all-staff safety training event to ensure that all employees have access to the safety information and training they need to enable them to fulfil their roles safely and effectively. For the past two years, we’ve implemented significant changes to the format of the training, adapting it to enable it to be delivered online to remove the risk to staff of large group gatherings. Staff were given time off in lieu to conduct the training safely from home, with support provided where needed.

The second award we’ve been shortlisted for, Partnership Excellence – Public/Private Sector, recognises true partnerships and innovative working that goes beyond the norm and standard contractual arrangements and good practice to manage waste and resources sustainably and effectively. It seeks to highlight creative ideas and new ways of working that can inspire others in the sector.

TJ has been working with the Final Straw Foundation, an ocean health charity, since 2019, when they initially got in touch to ask for assistance with a beach clean. They needed large waste items to be removed and we were keen to help. TJ and the Final Straw share many of the same aims – to improve plastic recycling and reduce plastic pollution – and we’re happy to step in to help whenever help is needed.

The third award we’ve made the shortlist for, Recycled Product of the Year, recognises a product that exemplifies the best of sustainability. It will have been designed with careful consideration of resources and incorporate recycled content. Factors such as reusability, end of life, waste minimisation, closed loop processes and so on will have been considered in its design.

The product that we focused on for this entry is iBlend, a recycled aggregate that we produce in-house iBlend using unwanted hardcore waste. These materials could end up at landfill if not repurposed in this way, so our product offers huge advantages to the environment. iBlend is not only made of recycled materials, but can also be reused again and again in the same way, minimising waste and encouraging a circular process.

TJ Waste General Manager Luke Haskell said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to be shortlisted for all three of the award categories that we entered; this is testament to the great work we are doing in all areas of the industry. The partnerships we’ve built, the investment we’ve made in staff training and our dedication to sustainability have all been recognised and we’re looking forward to celebrating these successes at the awards.”
