TJ secures multi-million pound contract with Tarmac

TJ Transport have won a five-year, multi-million pound contract to move aggregates and asphalt in the central south coast area on behalf of Tarmac, the UK’s largest supplier of construction materials.

This involves TJ undertaking all of Tarmac’s haulage work in the areas between Brighton and Bournemouth, which equates to hundreds of thousands of tonnes of aggregates per annum.

In addition, TJ purchases tens of thousands of tonnes of aggregates from Tarmac themselves each year – those that they cannot source from their own quarries – which makes this an ideal partnership.

The contract, which was agreed earlier in the year, has been very successful despite the on-going coronavirus pandemic and the challenges this has presented.

When the contract was signed, TJ automatically took on 30 of the existing sub-contract hauliers that Tarmac were employing to ensure continuity and manage the workload efficiently. In addition to these, TJ Transport’s own fleet of vehicles will also be employed to undertake work as and when needed to ensure a fast, effective service.

Tarmac, a CRH company, is the UK’s leading sustainable building materials and construction solutions business. Their innovative services and solutions help to deliver the infrastructure needed to grow the economy today and create a more sustainable built environment to support future prosperity.

TJ’s Commercial Director, Steve Grant said: “It’s all going very well so far. Our two companies are working seamlessly together to ensure outstanding service for our customers and we’re having regular client meetings to ensure the processes continue to run smoothly. We’re achieving everything Tarmac hoped would be possible and we’re looking forward to continuing to do so.”
