TJ Waste have agreed to sponsor Petersfield Rugby Football Club for the 2021/22 season. TJ have sponsored the club in previous years and are keen to continue to do so in a bid to provide much-needed support to local sports clubs.
TJ’s Butser Quarry, which is close to Petersfield, is a prominent business local to Petersfield RFC and an ideal partner for sponsorship. As sponsors, TJ will advertise on pitch-side boards on the 1st XV pitch, which are on display year-round. They will also be listed as an official sponsor on the club’s website.
Petersfield RFC was formed in 1927 and currently runs three Seniors Sides and a Veterans XV (Over 35s). It has teams at all ages from U6 to U18, which is a total of approximately 450 children. The 1st XV currently play in London South West 3 League and are coached by Head Coach Vicky Alexander. It’s very unusual to have a female coach in men’s rugby and is something that sets them apart from other clubs.
The 1st XV were promoted to the London SW3 League (Level 8) as Hampshire Premiership Champions back in 2020, pre-covid. The new season commenced at the beginning of September and it was a difficult start for the 1st XV with four away games, but they secured three wins and a draw, which means they’re now at the top of the London SW3 League.
The club is very keen on supporting the community wherever it can – this summer they hosted the Rugby Against Cancer charity event, which raised £10,500. Over the past nine years the club has raised £94,000 for other charities – mostly local – using its facility funded by sponsors and members to give back to the community.
Petersfield RFC have an ongoing relationship with TJ, having used their skip hire services on a number of occasions when they’ve had working weekends at the club which generated waste that needed to be taken care of.
Petersfield RFC Secretary Rob Mocatta said:
“Interaction with the community and sponsorship support is the lifeblood of grass roots sport. Petersfield RFC has been lucky enough to be supported by a number of sponsors, providing much needed funds to operate and improve the club, improving the rugby offer for its membership. TJ Waste’s support over recent years in player sponsorship and an advertising board around the 1st XV pitch provides much-needed revenue to achieve the immediate club goals and embark on a programme of constant improvement.”
TJ General Manager Luke Haskell said:
“We’re pleased to be supporting Petersfield RFC again as local team sport is essential to all communities. Getting our name seen around the club is great for us too as it raises awareness of what we do and the many ways in which we can provide assistance to individuals and businesses.”
