Supporting Armed Forces Day 2023

TJ Waste is sponsoring Worthing Armed Forces Day, which is taking place on Saturday 24 June. The event, which is organised by Worthing Veterans Association, is the chance for the public to show their support for the armed forces and all they do.

This sponsorship will take the form of the donation of waste management services, which will be used to keep the event space clean and safe.

The skip will come from our Yapton Materials Recovery Facility, which is also where the full skip and all its waste will be returned to. Here, the waste will be sorted and segregated, ready for onward recycling and disposal. We’re passionate about diverting waste from landfill and do all we can to ensure that as much as possible is recycled or reused.

Worthing Armed Forces Day is being held at Steyne Gardens in Worthing and will run from 9.30am to 4pm. The day will kick off with the band of the Rifles Regiment marching from the Town Hall to Steyne Gardens at 9.30am.

In attendance will be the Grenadier Guards, 12 Regiment Royal Artillery, Help for Heroes and Care for Veterans. There will also be military vehicles on-site, an airsoft range and a RAF Battle of Britain Flypast.

There will be live music from the Vintage Trio and the Alice Band Stands, displays  by the Sea Cadets, Army Cadets and the Air Training Corps, as well as a beer tent and a number of foot and ice cream outlets.

Armed Forces Day takes place on the last Saturday of each June, with celebrations throughout the week, beginning on Monday 19 June when the Armed Forces Day flag is raised on buildings and famous landmarks around the country.

The day is dedicated to the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to Service families, veterans and cadets. There are many ways for people, communities and organisations across the country to show their support and get involved.

The Armed Forces Covenant outlines how the Government, businesses and communities support Armed Forces personnel past and present throughout the year. 

In 2021, TJ signed the Armed Forces Covenant, demonstrating our commitment to supporting Armed Forces personnel, reservists, veterans and their families, and aligning our values with those of the covenant.

Agreeing to the terms of the covenant means that we actively encourage applications from veterans and reservists in a bid to provide job opportunities to this valued community as well as increase and enhance our employment pool.

We’re keen to employ ex-service personnel and support them in the transition from the Armed Forces to civilian life. To do this, we supply additional assistance when needed, including support with wellbeing and by providing training as required. 

For many, the change in pace after leaving the services will feel like a big change, but we’re happy to help veterans adjust to this to ensure they settle into their new role well.

This support extends to veteran’s families as well as active reservists. Anyone successfully securing a role at TJ who is part of the reserve forces will be allowed time off to undertake any related duties, and flexibility at other times to ensure the two roles work well together.

This sponsorship allows us to give a little something extra back to the Armed Forces Community and provide further support, which we’re very pleased to do.”
