TJ Waste recently donated a skip to the National Seamanship Training Centre (NSTC Lion) to help them clear their premises which had become increasingly cluttered over the years.
NSTC Lion is located next to our Tipner Materials Recovery Facility so when they got in touch to request a skip to help with their clearance project, we were happy to assist as a way of thanking them for their understanding following the events of the summer.
As a registered charity providing training to young people in the local area, we were keen to support them and the great work they do. We delivered the 8-yard skip to the training centre on Tipner Lane last month.
Once the skip was filled, we took the waste back to our Quartremaine Materials Recovery Facility for sorting and segregating for onward recycling. We are dedicated to diverting as much waste as possible from landfill and endeavour to recycle up to 100% of the waste that we handle.
We process all waste in line with WRAP (Waste and Resources Action Programme) protocol. WRAP’s mission is to accelerate the move to a sustainable, resource-efficient economy by re-inventing how we design, produce and sell products, re-thinking how we use and consume products, and re-defining what is possible through reuse and recycling.
NSTC Lion, which is operated by the Nautical Training Corps, was established as a cadet training centre in the early 1990s to provide seamanship training to young people and adults across the UK. Since then, thousands of people have attended courses and training at the centre, with many of those going on to develop careers in the maritime industry.
Commanding Officer of NSTC Lion, Cdre Ben French said: “Towards the end of the summer, we were clearing through equipment, stores and the site in general to get it clean and ready for winter and reached out to TJ Waste for help with the waste management to facilitate this.
“They were more than happy to help and this provision allowed us to clear our facilities with ease. This in turn has led to us exploring further funding options, which will enable us to enhance the opportunities we provide to young people across the south coast. Thank you TJ, you stepped in and helped when we really needed it!”
