Directing customers to our other three sites in the aftermath of Tipner fire

We’d like to let all our valued customers – particularly those who regularly utilise our Tipner facility – know that our other three Materials Recovery Facilities are fully operational and ready to assist you with all your third party tipping needs following the fire at our Tipner site on Saturday.

Our site on Quartremaine Road, Portsmouth, PO3 5QH is now open to the public and ideal for all our Portsmouth-based customers.

Our deepest apologies go to the general public and local businesses for any inconvenience caused over the weekend following the incident at our facility at Pounds Yard on Twyford Avenue, Tipner, Portsmouth. Many TJ staff worked alongside fire crews to dampen the flames that started in our facility in the early hours of Saturday morning (6th July).

Whilst the cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed, fire crews suspect that it was caused by an incorrectly discarded lithium-ion battery igniting in our warehouse. The disposal of lithium batteries is strictly prohibited in our skips and our third party tipping service.

We’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the public and our loyal customers for your support and understanding at this time.

Our other three Materials Recovery Facilities can be found at Quartremaine Road, Portsmouth, Dibles Wharf, Southampton, and Northwood Farm, Yapton.

TJ Waste’s Commercial Director Luke Haskell said: “We are all extremely shocked and saddened by the events at Tipner this weekend. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this incident to those in the local area, and hope this serves as a reminder of the things that are prohibited for disposal in our skips and via our tipping service. We prioritise safety in all we do and many of our staff gave up their weekends to assist in the dampening operation to lessen the impact on the surrounding area. A big thank you to them and to our loyal customers, whose support I know we can count on in the coming months as the restoration process progresses.”

Discover the exact locations of our other three Materials Recovery Facilities and be sure to utilise these whilst Tipner is temporarily closed.

Please note that our skip hire services remain unaffected and you can book your TJ skip online as usual.
