Blanchard Wells

Client background:

Blanchard Wells is a Hampshire-based civil engineering company that leads from the front to deliver outstanding groundworks projects in the commercial, industrial, retail, residential, public and transport sectors. Dynamic and forward thinking, yet down to earth and professional, Blanchard Wells build confidence and trust from their service excellence and safety initiatives.

The requirement:

Blanchard Wells is one of the contractors working in partnership with Amiri Construction to build Fareham College’s new £4.1m Civil Engineering Training Centre (CETC) in Lee-on-the-Solent, which is due to be completed by Autumn 2019.

Blanchard Wells approached TJ Transport for suggestions for a 450mm capping sub base layer upon which to build the new training centre. They needed to achieve a strong foundation to enable the building of a steel frame, so using the correct material for the job was imperative.

The challenges:

TJ Transport were required to select and supply the correct material to ensure:

  • A strong foundation would be achieved
  • A quick turnaround on delivery could be met
  • The chosen materials would fall within the client’s budget
  • Inclement winter weather would not have any adverse effects on the materials

The solution:

TJ advised that Butser Rock Chalk would be the most suitable material for the job. TJ then coordinated the delivery of 600 tonnes of 6F5 graded rock chalk, which was produced to specification, to the site in 30 eight-wheel tipper loads. This was completed within a week.
