How much does a skip cost?

When you’re considering skip hire, this is probably the first question that pops to mind! Whether you’re having a clear out, planning a DIY project, employing a builder to undertake renovations, or commencing a commercial project as part of your business, the cost of waste disposal is an important consideration.

Whilst getting a great price for your skip hire is important, there are also other things to consider when choosing your waste management provider. Utilising the services of a reputable company might mean the difference between getting great value for money from a responsible provider versus the cheapest option elsewhere.

The importance of using a reputable company
All waste has to be disposed of, and to do so correctly and with environmental factors in mind may cost a little more than simply sending it to landfill. At TJ Waste, we’re a responsible waste management company, dedicated to diverting as much waste as possible from landfill. We recycle up to 100% of the waste we handle, utilising a network or recycling partners in and around Hampshire to ensure all waste is directed down the best route for its type.

While this may cost a little more than sending it to landfill, the benefits reaped far outweigh the small extra cost. This way, all waste is going to the right places; we have many avenues for different types of waste, including all the standard recyclables as well as the tricky ones such as hard plastics, mattresses and fridge freezers. Wood is sent for Biomass and other items that are unable to be reused or recycled are directed down the Energy from Waste route.

Waste Transfer Notes
For commercial customers, we supply a Waste Transfer Note for each load so that you know exactly where your waste has gone and have evidence of it for your records. We’re constantly reviewing our processes to ensure that we are directing materials down the best routes, even as things evolve.

So how much does a skip cost?

The prices will vary depending on your location, the size of skip you need and the type of waste you’re disposing of. There are different prices for mixed waste, wood, soil and stone, rubble and concrete and plasterboard as they all have to be disposed of in different ways and some of these methods cost more than others. All prices below are exclusive of VAT.

2 YARD – from £125.40
The smallest skip available, the ‘mini’ 2 yard skip can accommodate approximately 20 to 30 bin bags full of waste, making it perfectly placed for small domestic jobs such as garden work and DIY projects.

4 YARD – from £152.00
With the capacity to accommodate approximately 40 bin bags full of waste, the 4 yard skip is ideal for a range of home projects, as well as major garden clearances.

6 YARD – from £194.75
The classic builders skip, the 6 yard skip has ample space to accommodate approximately 50 to 60 bin bags. This skip is perfect for moderate amounts of bulky waste – making them ideal for domestic projects such as kitchen and bathroom refits and other home renovations.

8 YARD MEGA SKIP – £237.50
The 8 yard mega skip is the most popular skip size in the UK, perfect for large, bulky items as well as heavy waste such as builder’s rubble, soil, or concrete. An 8 yard skip is great for larger-scale renovation work or commercial property development. In terms of capacity, it is able to accommodate approximately 60-80 bin bags’ worth (depending on the type of waste you are disposing of) but this should give you a good idea of how much it will take.

12 YARD JUMBO SKIP – £361.00
The 12 yard jumbo skip can hold approximately 120 bags of waste and accommodate large amounts of high volume waste such as metal, wood, plastics and packaging. It’s important to note that skips of this size are not suitable for heavy loads such as soil, rubble and concrete, as it will make the skip too heavy to be lifted once full.

ROROs
We also offer 17 yard and 35 yard skips, also known as roll on roll off skips. These are the largest skip sizes we offer and they are ideal for high volume commercial waste producers and large scale property development operations. Acceptable waste streams include rubble, construction waste, metal, wood, plastic, glass, window frames, garden waste, soil and dry recyclables. Please get in touch for a quote for the 17 yard and 35 yard ROROs.

5% DISCOUNT
If you only need the skip for a few days, be sure to book your collection for within 4 days of delivery to receive a 5% discount!

SKIP EXCHANGE
You could opt to go for a ‘skip exchange’ arrangement whereby your full skip is taken away and replaced with an empty one, giving you a constant waste disposal option on-site, ideal for longer projects. This works well because as soon as the skip is approaching capacity, you can call us and schedule an exchange to ensure seamless disposal. We will arrive on time and do the swap quickly and efficiently so that your project can continue as planned.

NATIONWIDE SKIP HIRE
We operate nationwide skip hire that enables us to provide a reliable service to all of our customers, regardless of where in the UK you live or work. We operate our in-house skip hire service throughout Hampshire and in parts of the surrounding counties. Outside of that we’ve been building relationships with a range of reliable suppliers up and down the country to ensure that we can still manage your waste disposal needs outside of our usual area.

All you need to do is place your order and then leave the rest to us! You’ll avoid the inconvenience of trying to source a new dependable company and benefit from the services of one of our reputable suppliers, safe in the knowledge that TJ will be overseeing everything – and all for our usual competitive prices!

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
We regularly support a number of local charities and community projects through the provision of skip donations. We like to give a little something back, and causes we’ve helped in the past year include the Rose Road Association, Heartbeat House, Solent Mind and the Portsmouth Marathon.

WHY HIRE A SKIP?

  • You’ll have your own waste disposal system onsite, in the size of your choosing to accommodate the waste you’re generating, meaning it’ll be out of the way, yet safely contained until collection.
  • You can book a skip to be delivered as quickly as the next working day so you can start clearing that waste almost immediately.
  • You can opt for a flexible collection date if you’re unsure how quickly you’ll fill it, or even go for a skip exchange arrangement – whereby you exchange your full skip for an empty one – if you underestimate your waste volume.
  • For domestic customers, skips can save you endless trips to the tip, which involves lots of lifting and shifting and can make a mess of your car!
  • If your house doesn’t have a front garden or forecourt, or you just don’t have space on your property for a skip, TJ can arrange a road permit for your skip (for a small fee), removing any worries you may have about organising this.
