Giving a little something back this Christmas!

Christmas is a time for giving and at TJ Waste, we’re really getting into the spirit! As a prominent company on the south coast, we like to do all we can to give a little something back to the communities we operate in.

Dress down days for Cash for Kids

We’ve hosted two dress down days in the lead up to Christmas to raise money for Cash for Kids. TJ staff were invited to come into work in casual clothes in return for monetary donations, which will be donated to this fantastic cause.

Cash for Kids is run by Bauer Media, a worldwide media group that operates the largest commercial radio network in the UK. They support children and young people affected by poverty, abuse, neglect, life-limiting illness and those who have additional needs.

Based across the UK, they’re a grant-giving charity helping community groups, other charitable organisations, schools and individual causes. In 2023 they raised £23.7 million, supporting 579,376 children.

You can get involved in Mission Christmas by donating a gift for a child, by making a one-off donation or a monthly contribution. All gift donations must be new and unwrapped and taken to one of the drop-off points across the UK. Visit cashforkids.org.uk/mission for  more info.

Rowans Christmas tree collection initiative

TJ Waste is supporting a Christmas Tree Collection Initiative launched by the Rowans Hospice last month. The aim of the initiative is to reduce waste whilst raising vital funds for the charity.

On Friday 10 and Saturday 11 January 2025, residents in dedicated PO-postcodes can have their real Christmas tree collected and recycled. The process is hassle-free for residents and allows them to support the great work of the Rowans Hospice with a £20 donation per collection.

Those wanting to utilise the Rowans Hospice Christmas Tree Collection Service must book a slot by Sunday 5 January 2025. Trees are then collected on the 10 or 11 January and recycled into wood-chippings and mulch.

Collections are available in the following postcode areas: PO1, PO2, PO3, PO4, PO6, PO7, PO8, PO9 1, PO9 2, PO9 3, PO9 5, PO9 9, PO12, PO13, PO14, PO16, and PO17 5. An email will be sent upon booking, confirming the time and date booked and instructions on where to leave the tree for collection.

This initiative is possible thanks to support from TJ Waste, Tree Assist Ltd (formerly South Downs Tree Surgeons) and Zurich.

Christmas hampers

This year we will once again be saying a big thank you to our valued and dedicated staff by giving each employee a luxury food hamper to celebrate the festive season. We will also be donating a number of these hampers to Two Saints, which is part of Portsmouth Homeless Services.

The hampers, which contain luxury items such as coffee, mince pies, fudge, gourmet popcorn and chocolates are donated to shelters in a bid to spread some festive cheer. The hampers will be delivered in time for the big day.
