A team from TJ Waste have signed up to take on the Test Way on Sunday 24 September, walking up to 25.5 miles each in support of the amazing Rose Road Association.
TJ has worked in partnership with Rose Road since 2013 when TJ’s Managing Director, John Gosling, became aware of the great work they do. Over the past 10 years, we’ve donated our services on numerous occasions and fundraised to contribute to the crucial and tireless work the charity does.
The Rose Road Association is a charity that makes a positive difference to the lives of young people with disabilities. It provides direct care services including respite breaks, community outreach, holiday activities and advice for over 300 children and young adults with severe physical disabilities, learning difficulties, and/or autism. Based in Southampton, they also work across Hampshire and the surrounding counties and have been providing these services for 70 years.
Those taking part in the Test Way Walk include Luke Haskell, Danielle Reynolds, Chris Keep, Alena Cayford and Louise Suckley.
The event is an annual one organised by The Rotary Club of Romsey Test and gives participants the chance to walk the distance they can manage whilst fundraising for their charity of choice. The walk will finish at Romsey Memorial Park and those taking part can opt to walk 5 miles (starting at Mottisfont), 8 miles (starting at Horsebridge), 11 miles (starting at Stockbridge), 16 miles (starting at Wherwell) or 25.5 miles (starting at St Marybourne).
The fully marshalled walk is great fun for all ages and abilities, set in beautiful countryside and well signposted. You can do it with the family, bringing along the children and even the dog!
The walk is just one of the ways that TJ supports Rose Road. Over the years, TJ MD John has completed the Great South Run, the ABP Marathon and the London Marathon for them. He, and other members of the TJ team have also taken part in the charity’s annual triathlon event and attended dinner dances.
As a company, TJ Waste has also made many donations to different fundraisers as well as donating skips whenever one is needed. Skips have been used for clearing out donations that they were unable to store during the pandemic (donations that would usually have been sold at events), for clearing debris when work has been carried out at their premises or gardens, and for waste disposal during fundraising events.
In 2022, TJ pledged £300 to Rose Road’s Big Give Project, which in turn went on to generate a total of £6,000 from community donations. The project was launched last year to support the mental health of the children and young people under their care in the wake of the COVID lockdowns. The money has enabled the charity to re-integrate their young people into the community and to regain skills they lost during that time of isolation.
Almost £20,000 has been raised between John and TJ over the past decade!
