TJ donates skip to Heartbeat House

TJ Waste has donated a skip to Heartbeat House, which is part of Southampton-based cardiac charity Heartbeat, a cause that TJ has supported on numerous occasions.

Heartbeat was set up to support the work of the Wessex Cardiac Centre at Southampton General Hospital, which ensures that people being treated for heart conditions receive the best care and support to treat their condition. With its world-class clinical teams and significant investment, it is one of the foremost Cardiac Centres in the UK and internationally.

The purpose of Heartbeat House is to accommodate the friends and family of patients receiving cardiac care on the Wessex Cardiac Unit. It has 25 bedrooms and is just a three-minute walk away from the hospital and gives those who are not local to the area, the chance to be able to stay close by and visit their loved ones during treatment.

Guests are asked to contribute a one-off fee of £35 for staying at the house and they are welcome to stay for as long as they’re needed. The running costs for the house, its facilities and all of its bedrooms total around £87,000 a year and as Heartbeat House receives no Government funding, it relies solely on the generous  donations of its supporters to keep going.

Since 1992, over £20 million has been raised for Heartbeat, enabling crucial improvements to be made to the Centre. Some of the most notable projects include the creation of Heartbeat House, the children’s Ocean Ward and the Heartbeat Education Centre, YACU, as well as regular funding of leading-edge equipment, clinical education and research.

TJ is an avid supporter of Heartbeat and has supported them numerous times in recent years. In 2021, TJ’s Commercial Manager Paul Smith ran the London Marathon in aid of the charity, successfully raising over £1,500 for them.

This is the second time we’ve donated a skip to Heartbeat House – we also provided one for a clearance project they were undertaking last summer. So when they got in touch to enquire about skip hire again, we were more than happy to donate a 12-yard skip free of charge.

This time, staff required the skip to dispose of a number of old beds and mattresses that were no longer needed. We arranged swift delivery of the skip to allow them to get clearing, and will collect it upon completion of the job.

At TJ, we specialise in the removal and disposal of materials that are traditionally tricky to dispose of, such as mattresses. We work in partnership with a third party to dispose of all mattresses correctly and in the most sustainable way possible. This is done by breaking the mattresses down, separating the different parts and recycling the various materials separately.

Our skip hire service is fast and flexible, offering deliveries as quickly as the next working day (subject to availability) and in sizes from 2 yard up to 12 yard as well as 17 and 35 yard commercial roll on roll off skips suitable for large commercial projects.

The standard skip hire period is up to two weeks, but if you only need your skip for a few days, be sure to book your collection for within four days of your delivery date to receive a 5% discount.

Tina Richardson, Events and Corporate Manager at Heartbeat said:We’re extremely grateful to TJ for their continued support and for being so reactive to our requests. I got in touch with TJ to request another skip and not only were they more than happy to help, but the skip was with us just a few days later! Thanks to everyone at TJ for the amazing service.”
