TJ donates skip to Wessex Heartbeat

TJ Waste has donated a skip to Heartbeat House, which is part of Southampton-based cardiac charity, Wessex Heartbeat.

Wessex Heartbeat is a charity set up to support the work of the Wessex Cardiac Centre in Southampton, which ensures that people being treated for heart conditions receive the best care and support to treat their condition.

The combination of world-class clinical teams and significant investment in the Wessex Cardiac Centre have turned it into one of the foremost Cardiac Centres in the UK and Internationally.

Since 1992, over £16.5 million has been raised for this cause, enabling crucial improvements to be made to the Centre. Some of the most notable projects include the creation of Heartbeat House, the children’s Ocean Ward and the Heartbeat Education Centre, YACU, as well as regular funding of leading-edge equipment, clinical education and research.

Heartbeat House has 25-bedrooms and its purpose is to accommodate the friends and family of patients receiving cardiac care on the Wessex Cardiac Unit at Southampton General. It’s just a three-minute walk away from the hospital and gives those who are not local to the area, the chance to be able to stay close by and visit their loved ones during treatment.

Guests are asked to contribute a one-off fee of £25 for staying at the house and they are welcome to stay for as long as they’re needed. The running costs for the house, its facilities and all of its bedrooms total around £87,000 a year and as Heartbeat House receives no Government funding, it relies solely on the generous  donations of its supporters to keep going.

TJ is an avid supporter of Wessex Heartbeat and has supported them numerous times in recent years. Last year, TJ’s Commercial and Operations Manager Paul Smith ran the London Marathon in aid of the charity, successfully raising over £1,500 for them and finishing in the top 11%!

So when the staff at Heartbeat House  got in touch recently to inquire about skip hire to accommodate a garden clearance they were planning, TJ was more than happy to donate their services free of charge.

TJ delivered the skip to the house this week enabling work to begin, and will collect it upon completion of the job. TJ’s skip hire service is fast and flexible, offering deliveries as quickly as the next working day (subject to availability) and in sizes from 2 yard up to 12 yard as well as 17 and 35 yard commercial roll on roll off skips suitable for large commercial projects.

TJ’s standard skip hire period is up to two weeks, but keep in mind that if you only need your skip for a few days, be sure to book your collection for within four days of your delivery date to receive a 5% discount.

Tina Richardson, Events and Community Manager at Wessex Heartbeat said: “In addition to Paul running the London Marathon for us in 2021, TJ’s Chairman Terry Higgins has also supported us over several years with teams at golf days, tables at balls and sponsorship of our shows at the Mayflower Theatre. We’d like to extend our thanks to everyone at TJ for their continued support.”
