TJ Waste has been awarded the waste management contract for St Mary’s May Fayre, which will take place at St Mary’s Church in Fratton, Portsmouth on Monday 2 May 2022.
TJ has carried out the waste management for this event for many years and this year is set to be even more eagerly-anticipated after two years’ absence due to the pandemic.
The event, which will run from 10am to 4pm, takes place annually to raise money for the church. There will be arena displays including dancing and music, a real ale tent, stalls and refreshments, and fun family activities such as a bouncy castle, fairground rides and more!
TJ will provide 15 Eurobins, which they will deliver to the site prior to the event. The bins will be dotted around the site to ensure it is kept as clean as possible throughout the day.
The bins and skips will be removed the day after the Fayre and taken back to TJ’s Portsmouth Materials Recovery Facility, where the waste will be sorted to ensure all recyclable items are separated and that the rest of the waste is directed down the most appropriate routes.
TJ is dedicated to diverting waste from landfill and we endeavour to recycle up to 100% of the waste we handle. We have established recycling routes for a wide range of materials from the standard card, paper, metal and plastic bottles, to the more tricky materials such as rubble, hard plastics and mattresses. TJ are always working behind the scenes to find new ways to recycle the materials that have proved difficult in the past. Any materials that cannot be reused or recycled are directed down the Energy from Waste (EfW) path wherever possible.
TJ processes all materials in line with WRAP (Waste and Resources Action Programme) protocol. WRAP’s mission is to accelerate the move to a sustainable, resource-efficient economy by re-inventing how we design, produce and sell products, re-thinking how we use and consume products, and re-defining what is possible through reuse and recycling.
TJ Waste’s General Manager Luke Haskell said: “We’re thrilled to have secured this contract again after a two-year absence due to Covid. We pride ourselves on the high levels of customer service we provide and we’re looking forward to contributing to the smooth-running of this highly-anticipated community event.”
