New Customers Join T J Waste and Recycling

Welcome to TJ Waste & Recycling – the workplace recycling specialist of choice for discerning businesses and organisations in Hampshire, Dorset and West Sussex.

An additional 220 businesses have joined the licensed waste carrier’s growing commercial base following the acquisition of various services previously run by Bridge Skips of Hilsea, Portsmouth.

Apart from the TJ name, new customers are unlikely to notice any difference in what will be a seamless transfer of services from Bridge Skips to TJ Waste & Recycling.

John Gosling, TJ’s Operations Director, said: “We give a warm welcome to our new customers, and we have every confidence that the service will be improved still further under TJ’s dedicated workplace collections.

“It is worth emphasising that our new customers from Bridge should see a seamless transfer of accounts and are being notified of any new collection dates.

“The acquisition is part of our expansion strategy, helping businesses large and small, from offices, shops and garages to restaurants, factories and care homes, maximise their recycling of renewable resources through highly efficient collections and competitive pricing.

“With landfill tax currently at £56 a tonne, and set to rise to £64 from next April, it is in the financial and environmental interests of companies and organisations to dispose of waste sensibly.

“The extended workplace recycling service will complement our waste disposal and haulage services as we divert more and more material away from expensive and unsustainable landfill. We aim to recycle up to 85%, if not more.”

TJ Waste & Recycling takes over Bridge’s operations involving wheelie bins for both general waste and recycling  in a collection area stretching from Chichester to Southampton.

Bridge’s general skip hire service remains under the Bridge name in the deal. TJ itself provides a comprehensive skip hire service.

The acquisition sees TJ, the independent waste management contractor, carry out an extra  880 wheelie bin lifts a month, bringing the total lifts to 6,500 a month for 900 businesses on the M27 and A3 corridors from service launch just 18 months ago.

TJ’s fleet of lorries take the contents of the wheelie bins to the company’s four recycling and waste transfer stations in Portsmouth, Havant, Winchester and Yapton, near Arundel in West Sussex.

Materials for recycling include soil, rubble, plasterboard, wood, paper, cardboard, cans and plastics, while any remaining waste is either sent to landfill or to energy recovery plants.

Recycables are sorted by loaders at the transfer stations into specification before being baled, shredded, crushed or screened and then prepared for transport to reprocessing markets.

TJ supplies 1,100-litre Euro Bins for recyclable and general waste; they are available on contract or for short-term use.

Customers include Portsmouth FC, Gunwharf Quays, decoy missiles giant Chemring Plc, Portsmouth NHS Trust, Langstone Technology Park, City of Portsmouth Boys’ School, the National Oceanography Centre, Marine Accident Investigation Branch, the University of Southampton, construction company Wilding Butler, Hotel du Vin, Hampshire County Council’s children’s services and adult services and property companies Knight Frank, King Sturge and Lambert Smith Hampton.
