The site before TJ Waste & Recycling started work
Four tonnes of rubbish dumped to the rear of shops in Portsmouth has been cleared away in an emergency operation by waste management specialist TJ Waste.
Fly-tippers left their mark on private land in Portsmouth, abandoning items such as gas bottles, rotting carpets and computer equipment.
One of the staff at TJ Waste, which is headquartered near Fareham, described the incident as one of the worst he'd seen on private land in Hampshire in over 5 years.
Peter Shardlow, the firms waste manager, said: "The fly-tipping was both illegal and highly dangerous. There were children playing close by - they could easily have been injured. We were called in by the estate manager to dispose of the rubbish blight in an emergency operation which took over seven hours because there was so much to clear away.
"This was the worst case of fly-tipping on private land I have seen on over five years."
The 3 lorry loads of material was delivered to TJ Waste's commercial recycling and transfer station at Quatremaine Road, Portsmouth, before being either processed for recycling or sent on to landfill.
Fly-tippers found guilty in crown court face unlimited fines and up to five years in prison.
